I want too get alk for 11-12 to 8. I used Instant O. If I add acid to my salt, when I doing a water changed will that be ok? Would I be better off changed salt{Fritz} I only have 40 gal. and 10 gal. tank. I am used 2 part solution. So then I would add smaller amount Thanks Ed

If you're looking to get your alk numbers up then perhaps switch to red sea salt mix. I always had my alkalinity around 10 or 11 when I used that. I switched back to Reef Crystals and it's dropped to 8 or so. This is all without adding anything.

You're also okay to add in the trace elements when doing your water changes, just make sure to not raise everything too high in one sitting.

It is "OK" to use the IO salt as is, or to lower the alk, depending on what your goals are and how you change water.

Some people do lower the alk in the salt, but I never did. :)
