I have a 120G I use BRS part 2. I dose alk and calk at 90ML per day. My alk drops daily. How much should I raise my ML per day? I have a lot of sps work strong growth.

It seems to of dropped from 7.8 to 6.8 in 3 days. Maybe the first test was wrong?

I just recalibrated my doser. The alk was at 9 now is back to 10ml calibrated

I’m going on a vacation for 11 days in 2 days. I finally fixed my doser been trying to get it right I wish I had more time.

Should I raise my alk to at least 100ml per day with the calk?

You need to know how much water your 120 is truly holding, after factoring things in like live rock, sand and etc.

Have you ever used the BRS calculator?

When you hit the right one time dose, then you'll know how much water, your reef is really holding.

If you meant kalk... , that would raise your calcium too.

Thanks total water is 105G. I put in my alk where it is and where I want it. It says add 80ml. Kinda scared to that much but maybe not.

It’s was at 90ML per day but I moved it to 100ml. Maybe I just need to raise it. My doser has been messed up and I had to order parts now I’m dealing with my alk dropping lol. I leave on Friday morning.

Yeah,
You know, if you dose too much at one time (over the daily limit), your ions will bind together and your parameters will drop, due to precipitation.

I'd raise it nice and slow.

Hope you have someone to dose for you, while your on vacation.

If your sps are monti's .5 dkh raise per day would be my call.

Acros may be safer on the .3dkh raise in dkh per day.

Either way, don't go over the daily recommend dose of the product that you use.

The products that I use (Seachem) state the daily limit on their containers, and it tells you if you need to split up the dose, when using their calculator.

I will thanks. BRSs 200g tank used 150ml of alk per day with a low stock tank. My tank is heavily stocked so I’m thinking the 90ML is not to much and probably I’m not having precipitation issues it’s just I need to dose more.

I would rather it rise to 8 or 9 dk over the next week then to drop into the 5's as alk can get to 11 even without issue to my understanding.

If your sandbed (grains) are lose and not hardened up, like a brick, then your not precipitating.

Thanks! I take great pride in my tank. I just been having this doser issue and been trying to fix it for the past 2 weeks. Now this vaca thing came really fast lol. Sand is super lose

Im gonna raise it to 110ml per day and hope when i get back its not all crazy high. I think if anything it will slowly reverse and go up a little but not crazy. My guess

What about start thinking in „how much your tank consumes a day“ instead of „how many ml you dose“. It makes things easier to understand as
- it is independent from your tank size
- it is independent from what you dose (Kalk or any of the ~100 2 part recipes available)

A consumption of 1 dkH per day is absolutely normal for sps tanks.
Don’t make yourself too many thoughts on overdosing.

Take care of both Ca and Alk values! Some tanks consume Ca / Alk in a not balanced way and then changing to 2 / 3 parts is required.

I’m about to head out on my trip the past three days I raised my elk to 100 mL per day . Day one 6.8 day two 7.28 day three 7.34.

It seems when I get back possibly it will be 8.5 based on the current raising rate but I’m assuming once it hits its max consumption it will slow down so it might not even get to 8dkh.

Thought before I leave on my trip take it down to 90ML? Or keep steady at 100ml

Glad you had a great time...

I would bring it up slowly to the dkh that you like.

Then I'd do like @Martin Kuhn stated:
Figure out your daily dose for cal and alk, to keep your reef nice and stable.

FWIW:
If you ever go Neptune / Apex, their DOS pumps are top notch and as dependable as it gets.
