Alk | how high is too high and what does it do?

Hi

I got an Alk reading of 16dkh which I know is outside the recommended range so wondering at what point (level/reading) does ‘too high’ start to cause issues and what are those issues?

Bad husbandry - manual dosing and not testing often enough

what ‘bad stuff’ happens as it goes above that?

Ryan from BRS mentions how he dumped a container of Kalkwasser into a tank and got the dKH up to around 40 or something crazy like that. Nothing much happened. It probably depends very much on the livestock you have in the tank.

Let'er down slow and easy is probably the best advice.

P.S. - get a cheap jebao doser.

Well that sounds pretty bad alright! Interesting re Ryan from BRS. The 16 reading was actually just before Xmas and I now have it down to 9.9. Thanks for advice - yep, doser is next purchase.
