Alk is dropping like crazy

So about a week ago my alk has started dropping the only change I can think is. I just put new lights on about when it started dropping. My old lights were under powered. I think corals were dieing from lack of light. New lights are starting to make montos color back up. Could the new light make my corals consume more alk?
