Alk Kalk calculation double check.

Just wanted to ask for a double check on my math. Tank is 90 gallons net water.

My last 2 checks on Alk showed me dropping from 7.2 to 6.7 over 36 hours.

So given that, the alk calculator says I need to dose 1490 ml saturated kalk to replace the used Alk. So since this is over a 36 hr window, I need to dose 41ml/hr to maintain.

I want to slowly increase my Alk back up to 8.5ish. So the same calculator says I need to dose 290 ml to increase .1 dKH, or 12ml/hr.

So, I’d like to increase my Alk over the next 30 days or so. So I believe I should dose 41ml/hour to maintain and 6ml/hr to add .05dKH/day.

Am I thinking of this correctly?

So what I am seeing is that your tank is consuming about 0.333 dkh per day. I put this number in a reef calculator and came up very close to your 41ml per hour rate. I also agree with your additional 12 per hour.

Two things to remember:

1. The higher the dkh, the higher the consumption at these levels. Be prepared to bump up your supplemental dosage and recalculate
2. your calculations assume fully saturated kalk. Not an easy thing to keep perfect. As such, you will most likely need to bump up your daily dosage as well to compensate.
