I’ve heard when adding new frags to your tank that sometimes the uptake in alk and cal can be affected and not consumed at the same pace as the previous few days. I just added a large colony of an acro yesterday, for the last month my alk has been perfectly steady at 9dkh. After adding the colony yesterday, my alk currently shows 9.7

Could the the consumption of alk drop that much from just adding a colony?

Lots of things might impact calcification for a short time when you mess with the tank. A heavily sliming coral, for example, might impact others.

It might also be testing error. :)

I'd just keep any eye on the alkalinity. :)

The acro I added is massive compared to everything hung else in the tank. And it slimed like crazy for a couple hours. Tested twice first test 174ppm (9.744 dkh) second test 173ppm (9.688). Usually always sits at the 160-161ppm range. I’ll just test twice a day and see if it levels itself back out. Thanks for the quick response Randy ;)
