Is there a way to actually calculate what this is? Supposing my calcium is 700 (due to a series of blatantly stupid events)? Is there a way to calculate how fast my alk will drop over a period of days? I'm gearing up for a big water change but it takes a bit.

No. You cannot ever calculate a precipitation rate.

but, I can give a relative comparison, and that calcium level (700 ppm)compared to 420 ppm is the same rate increase as alk going from 7 to 11.2 dKH or pH from about 8.00 to 8.22. As you can see, pH is a bigger driver than typical alk or calcium changes.

Thanks.

Big water change got me down to 650 calcium. question: should i orchestrate another? or is that low enough that i can let it start coming down naturally?
