Alk. Question.

I have used salifert and like it. But it's difficult the first few times. Never used the Hannah
I use the red sea alkalinity pro test kit, I used to use salifert but the red sea is the same titration type test just a little easier to use. I'm done measuring alk in about a minute with this kit and it is very consistent, also gives readings spot on to manufacturers suggested levels. I'm using there salt as well, red sea coral pro.
As far as alk, mine dropped over the past week more then I though it would due to some new inhabitants but I have it up to 7.8-8 right now. Tryin to get it to 9.5-11. My two part from brs comes in tomorrow.

The Hannah Checker is very simple. The directions are very easy to follow. The Salifert Alkalinity test kit is pretty easy as well.

With the Red Sea alk kit I have trouble determining the switch from blue to the orangish color. It looks like it changes to yellow after the blue instead of orange so I dunno if that is the finish of the test or if I need to keep adding drops.

I have used it an I count that test then add drop by drop until I see a distinguishable change. Then if they are not far off I know I had it before.

I use the salifert test kit, not bad, but I want to switch to the Hannah. Heard a lot of good things about it in our local reef club.
11 dKH seems a little high. I'd shoot for 9 or so. I've found it to be a little difficult to maintain stable alk levels when it's that high unless you run a calc reactor. I was always messing with my dosing routine. Just my experience though. My tank has been far more stable when my goal has been to stay in the 8-9 range. I'm running a mixed reef, but heavier on the SPS.
