Alk readings with GHL

I hate this machine. Really read people saying this things amazing etc etc... I have had nothing but issues. At this point I’m about done with this. What a waste of thousands of dollars.

I feel your pain, i really do, i got rid of mine because it just caused me headache after headache, so much so it spoilt my enjoyment of the hobby, best thing i did was to get rid of it.

I really do tell the wife I’m about to just sell it all daily at this point. Doing water changes was easier than this.

Sorry you are having troubles. The set ups for my profilux, mitras lights, and KH director were pretty smooth. I had a few questions along the way, but no major errors or problems. Once the KH director is up and running, I think you’ll find it’s amazing.

Are you getting this error when you try to access the local or MyGHL connection or both?

Maybe @Vinny@GHLUSA can assist?

Only the WiFi pics connection works. The other is on there but won’t connect. It did once and never did again. Here is the current chart. This things a joke. Thousands of dollars down the drain.

Have you tried rebooting your p4? It worked for me after hours of trying to connect, yet nowhere did it say to do that.
Try and persevere with it, as it is alot of money to throw away if you can't afford it.

Don’t have the P4. Just the KH, two fosters and the Ion on pre order. My system was automated before or decided to get this with KASA smartstrips. One of my power supplies has gone out too. This things a few weeks old.

Sorry mis read your post,
I was looking forward to the ion director but after the hassle ive had with GHL i would never buy anything again with GHL on it. My KHD worked fine for a few days then just started reading what it liked, at that point i gave in with GHL, but that is just my experience with GHL, yours might be different to mine, there are some friendly and knowledgeable people on the GHL forum but there are also people who think they are above and beyond everybody and everything is your fault as it cant possibly be GHL's fault.
I'm sorry i cant be any help to you in fixing the problem but do try and stick with it if you can.
You might be better putting this in the GHL sponsors forum.

I’m getting there fast. This thing has been nothing but a headache. I have watched videos. Read everything I can. Calibrated this thing so many times I had to buy more reagent already... still not reading like it should. My Hannah goes from 7.2-7.1... GHL is 4-10.9 .....

as people mentioned the set up is extremely important. Also don’t use the feed length calculator, weigh the content and use that value. Reference Solution or a 3rd test kit is a good idea as well. Once I understood how this testing process worked from RHF DIY article on using acid to calc ALK I realized that at the volume the KHD was using accurate calibration is essential.

That doesn’t explain it reading from 6 to 10 in a 12 hour period.

I’m not trying to stoke anything here. But, there has to be something wrong with your setup. The variance is just to spread. The probe is calibrated with the proper calibration fluid? I only ask because you can change those numbers during calibration. You aren’t getting air sucked in? Mini zip ties on the hose connectors help. I know things can get frustrating. There was a batch some time ago that had an internal hose issue. Perhaps you found an old stock one that wasn’t caught. Have you opened an issue ticket with GHL. I know it’s easy to hop on a forum to ask others, but they can figure more things out. Don’t give up just yet. It took me 3 days of trying to update firmware on my p4 to figure out the driver loaded onto a different USB port than the one it initially connects to.

Did u use the same tubing that came with it. 4mm. Or your own. Again calibrating say 6 times back to back each head and then average it out. I'm willing to help as it took me months to trust it. But it seems this thread is already over your giving up and just shredding the product.

I just read back over this thread again. How many total dosers do you have? Are they both SA dosers? If so, do you have one set in slave mode? Are the heads numbered properly in gcc? Your firmware has been updated as well as WIFI firmware? Are you hard connected to internet with the SA doser? Just trying to help figure out some more to help better. I’ll see if more technical help can respond. I admittedly haven’t gotten my KH Director out of the box yet till I finish tank upgrades. @Ditto @Vinny@GHLUSA

Yep, used the tubing that came with it and the other for the reagent. I calibrated many many times and put in what it said.

I have two but have yet to hook the other up since the way it’s going it’s prolly just going to be sold off or taken out in a field while listening to ice cube and smashing it with a bat. Firmware is up to date.

where is it drawing from?

when u calibrate it you are leaving the draw line where it is right.. same with the reagent... drain obviously u gotta use a glass of water to draw from it...

if you take out your PH probe and put it in the 4 fluid and let it sit for a minute or 2.. does it show on your app or GCC its reading 4.0? same with the otherone?

also look for when it backflushes does all the water push out the tube to the filter at end and actually filter is empty as well except maybe just a touch of water?

I feel your pain. I swapped all of my apex equipment over to GHL at the end of last year because the Trident was never available. I got the KHD and pre-ordered the IonD. I got the basics of how to set up and use the GHL and the KHD did work well for a while but it seemed like I was constantly having to re-calibrate the ph probe to get accurate results.

I didnt catch a leak from the KHD ph probe which resulted in water getting in my dosing pumps-very frustrating and expensive. I got all that fixed and the KHD had been doing good until one day a month or so ago it starting reading very erratic. It would measure 6.5 and then the next would show 11. I re-calibrated the probe and then I started getting the tritation error and this was the last straw for the KHD for me. I am currently upgrading my tank to a larger one so I just removed the KHD all together and have given up on trying to use it again. I did cancel my IonD pre-order after the release date was TBD in the fall and after the headaches the KHD gave me.

Are you using the filter on your KH water intake side for the aquarium? If you remove it does it stabilize? I had a problem where mine got clogged(it was in my sump) and I had to remove it and replace it with a new one.

Second questiion are you doing water changes and if is the water change being done on or around the time of your sample taking?

third make sure your vent tube for both the water water and the one off the back of the unit it not submerge in water.

forth and this was a mistake I did and never throught about it is your ato line close to your KH supply line? This can be amplified also if your using Kalk also. I was going days tearing down the KH and looking, recalibrated the probe each time the pumps and finally caught a break when during one of my KH samples I heard my ato kick on and went please not something this stupid. We did not have graphing of dosing pumps back when this happen but moved my ato line.

Fifth a larger sample of water, I have seen the best results, when the sample is larger then smaller.

I have three running, 1 stand alone and 2 connected to Profilux and after you dial them in they should not cause you any grief. Yes I have had a spike suddenly to 13, do I panic no I just do another test and it goes back to 7.5 and like ok good. I get one of those maybe every 5-6 months. I calibrate my probe every 3-6 months. Except for the one issue I outlined below :)

Last I was having a problem with one of my units, where it became very erratic to the point o what’s wrong with it. I did a support call and they asked me to take off the cover and noticed the supply lines were clogged. This was because I was not using the filter on the water sample side, I was like it in the return chamber of my sump it should be ok. This took about a year, I wish I took picture cause even the chamber that held the PH probe had gunk in it. I had to replace the tubing and I cleaned the chamber and it was back up and running like nothing was wrong.

PS: it is also very important to keep the distance from the KH solution to the pump to the shortest distance. If your also using a container other then the sticking the dosing line in the bottle make sure there are no leaks in where you attach the tub to the container but also also within the dosing container itself to the cap where you attach your dosing tube. I was helping a friend who was having an issue where the KH solution was not in a bottle he loved being color coordinated with dosing containers and started having an issue and thought his KH was bad.hoe we found it was he started to notice a small air bubble appear, so to confirm he stuck the tube in a new bottle of KH solution and the problem went away.
