Just curious as to which kit you use to test alk. Was using lamotte and got a hanna checker. Just tested with hanna and it showed 168. Retested and it showed 178 ppm. Anyone have the same results as me?

I have always used the Tropic Marin. Easy to use and has been dependable.

I use lamotte also. I recall a thread a while back about the hanna PO4 checker and the consensus was that you should mark the glass vile and put it in the same exact way every time. Variations in the glass can give you different reading if you don't put it in the same way every time. I'm assuming the checker works the same way as the PO4.

I use the hanna and when I do check a second time it has always been the same reading for me. I used to use Elos for that and it is a great test kit too.

I use the alk checker from Hanna as well. FWIW, although your results weren't exactly the same that is very very close, it is very hard to get the same exact result no matter what kind of test you use.

Hanna checker for me! If you don't use the tip on the syringe you can get slightly off readings. but if you are careful and precise as possible you should get really accurate results.

Hanna checker for me, and IMHO it's the most accurate hobbiest test kit on the market. Just make sure you do it the exact same way every time. I got a 10 ml syringe and use that instead of the line on the cuvette. My readings are exactly the same every time. Good luck. Make sure to wipe your fingerprints off the cuvette as well. Since it reads off of light it absolutely can affect it IMO.
