alk too high

When go say the PH will drop temporarily. Does that mean it will rise on its own or I will have to dose it?

It should rise back on its own after a bit is I think what Randy was talking about, but you might want to what and let him chime in on this as I have never dosed muratic acid in tank before. Anything else I have dosed that effects PH as a by product of the product dosed seems to only temporarily create a drop or rise and after a few minutes is back to normal. :)

Yes, it will rise on its own as the tank blows off the excess CO2, and anyway, there is nothing you should dose to help it rise as they all add alkalinity.

The pH might drop below 7 temporarily, which is why I asked what is in the tank. If you haven't started already, maybe start with 1/4 as much as I suggested and make sure there is no undesirable effects for 24 h.

FWIW, lots of people have done this in salt mixes, but not that I know of in existing aquaria.

Update, last night I added .2 ml per tank volume of muriatic acid it dropped my Alk from 22 to 16. Everything looks good but my Duncan frag hasn't opened yet today, well it did half way. I also lost a emerald crab, but I don't know if that is related or not.

I was gonna do a water change tomorrow bout 30 gal with the ro/di from the lps and maybe that will bring it down where it nrrds to be. But after reading your post Mr. Farleys post i guess I need to wait a few days before I do that.

No, doing a water change is good. I didn't know you had water available yet.

I just didn't want to stress things with the big ph drop too often. A water change won't drop pH much. :)
