Hey all ,
How can I lower my alk level to be more in line with nsw levels? 2.60 meq/7.3dkh according to, Natureef seanalysis test kit I use.
My current level is 3.50 meq or 9.8 dkh
My calcium level is between 440 to 460
My Ph is at 8.4
Do I add anything or just leave it alone?

Leave it alone... It is not far enough out of range to worry!

People run it up in the 11-12's on the high end

Yours is fine -
I keep mine around 8.6

I agree with Pazazz. If you want it lower, just let it come down on its own. I can tell you, though, from personal experience that it is more difficult to keep alkalinity stable and in a safe range at 7 than 9 dKH. If it swings down, you have to be ready to buffer it back up. I was having trouble for a period of about two weeks where I could have probably dumped the whole buffer bottle in at night and it would still be down to 5.4 dKH the next morning. Just a heads-up. You may have an easier time than I have. My tank is also probably smaller than yours.

I agree with the others that your Alk level is just fine, however from personal experience i have found the Lamotte Alkalinity test kits to be a bit more accurate than the natureef. You might want to give it a try in the future (plus its never a bad idea to get multiple readings from different test kits) Hope that helps some :)

im sure many online retailers carry them, however i got mine locally from nick at cultivated coral. what's nice is once you buy the original test kit ($24) you can buy just the refills for half the price ($12) instead of having to rebuy a whole new kit (so long as you keep the test tubes and syringes in good shape).
