So i have a question. As I am now monitoring alk every four hours I can now see when my tank is using alk (based on the amount the KHG diesels). What I have noticed is that more alk is dosed from around 9pm to early morning. Why is this happening. I though that the corals would have been building their skeleton at the same time they are actively photosynthesising. I would love to here from the experts why there seems to be more alk consumption during the night.

This have been discussed for ages :D People that run a steady dosing of alk ( x times a hour for all day) often report weak downgoing in alk during day. Some says that this indicate that 70 % will be consumed during light period and 30 % during night. But if you have a dynamic dosing around a nominal value and see more dosing during dark hours - it is very interesting. Personally - I dose all my alk between 20:00 to 10:00 and have not seen any problems with that

Sincerely Lasse
