Alk ***?!!

Setting up my new tank and ran into a conundrum.

2 week ago I mixed up the red sea pro salt and added to the tank.

Now I'm testing alk...

My Hanna meter is saying 5.2dkh (tested twice, meter has worked flawlessly on previous tank.).

Checked with API kit and its off the charts... 15+ dkh.

What the heck?!

Oh and exp date on API kit is 2016

I bet the Hanna is reading meq/l. That would make the api kit accurate (15dkh=5.36meq/l)

My Hanna reads 135ppm. Then I do the calculator And convert it and it's 7.56 DKH AND 2.7meq/L

Ah ppm calcium carbonate equivalents.

Try it on some new salt water and see what it reads, along with the API.

I have seen API of by as much as 4 Points against Salifert.

Never use that Brand for Alkalinity.
