Hi all,

I have a reef aquarium. 120 gallons to be exact. My alk levels are at 10ppm, calcium at 440 ppm and PH level is at 8 ppm. I recently bought brightwell aquatics calcion, alk, and ph buffers for dosing. I wanted to lower my alkalinity due to the fact that i have mainly softies and a couple LPS. I was wondering if there are any ways i can lower alk. Also if i dose if any of them would affect the others and if so how? Thank you for the help fellow reefers!

For a long term solution, you can switch to a salt that mixes with a lower alk. Some salts have higher alk than others. A lot of salts will tell you how much average you get with each specific SG.

Thank you I’ll do some research on which salts would best suit the levels I would prefer!

If it were me, I'd just let the alkalinity lower naturally through depletion and water changes than try to dose anything to change the levels. Based on those test results it doesn't seem to me like anything is wrong.

Thank you! I might go that route and just keep an eye out on the levels.

I would select a salt with lower parameters as already suggested, I personally use the Red Sea Standard salt in both my tanks.

And just do water changes to bring the levels down. 10 isn’t that bad anyway, I ran for over 12 months at around 12.6dKH following an accelerated growth program

Also just remember you only need to add things when you’ve tested and found you need to.
