So yesterday I tested my alk it was sitting at 8.

After leaving for 24hrs and measuring at the same time today it was 7.5. This is telling me that it has consumed 0.5 over night.

I then dosed 5ml of red sea alk partB
Leaving for 2 hours I retested and it shows 7.7 tested again and was 7.6?

I have to dose 1ml per 0.1 increase

I am using a hanna tester.
Other parameters are 25.9 degrees
Salinity 1.025
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 5
Phos 0.03

I have 2 small hammers 1 goni and 1 leather hand.

Any advice for what is going on or if Im doing something wrong?

Gotta test at same time everyday I have trident and my alk goes up at night and down during the day even if I don't dose anything

I tested at the exactly same time. Did 3 more tests and all were 7.5, 7.6 7.5 7.5

I went to LFS they believe my leather is soaking up most of the alk. Its massive tbh. Might have to rehome it.

your assumption that you consume .5 over 24hrs may very well be inaccurate. you consumed .5 over ONE 24hr period, but not necessarily all 24hr periods. before you performed that test, what was your dosing regimen?

I don't really see anything to be concerned with.

I'd just dose more if you want alkalinity higher.

There is too much variability in testing and dosing to worry about small differences. Even if you used it perfectly, the Hanana alk checker only claims to be good to +/- 0.4 dKH at your alk level.

basing your dosing on just 1 day is the issue. A lot can vary in daily uptake in a tank day to day, but they tend to smooth out over time.

Try dosing the same thing for a week, then test and adjust dosage after a week.

Day 1 test.
Day 2 dose
day 3 dose
day 4 dose
day 5 dose
day 6 dose
day 7 dose
day 8 test.
If your alk is higher than you'd like at this point, lower your daily dosage a little.
If your alk is lower than you'd like at this point, increase your daily dosage a little.

dose the new dosage for another week and then test again, and adjust.

small changes over weeks, not daily.
