I have made kalwasser before but never anything like 2 part. Just make sure to do a lot of research and make it carefully and you should be fine.

I made baked baking soda and water, 2x's. Its safe. Just dose a little and then test. Do not make a sudden alk changes or you can harm your tank. It will also raise your PH so keep eyes open

Whatever "recipe" you're using, mix it as it says to. From there, you can do whatever you're save with, as far as the dose amount. You may decide to dose 50% of what they say, and then test to see how it affects your tank. you may feel safe with 75%. Myself...I'd dose 75% of the amount they say and test it for a few days to make sure it's working fine and not too much...then increase it in a way that doesn't change alk more than .3dkh per day.

I just buy the mix from BRS, the price is very reasonable and zero risk.

I use Kent marine superbuffer dkh and just mix it in with my top off water, I usually mix in about 1/4 tsp per 5 gallons of fresh water and adjust a little up or down if I'm getting more or less evaporation. By doing this I'm able to make gradual adjustments to my alkalinity and keep it very stable since the tank needs to constantly be topped off.
