Hi,
I try to keep my alkalinity around 8-8.5dKH. As I understand, the alkalinity of Tropic Marine Reef Pro is 8.5dKH, so it's a good match.
I measured my alkalinity on Friday and it was 8.0dKH. Today, I did a 10-gallon water change (10% total water volume) and my alkalinity now measures 9.3dKH. This is from a 200-gallon bucket that is about half full...
Any ideas what happened?
How can I get my alkalinity in line?

Thanks

I verified the alkalinity using both Salifert and Hanna Instruments test kits.
I did not mix up the bag. In fact, I've never done this this before. Could this be the problem?

Okay. If you only did a 10 gallon water change, the DKH in the new water would have to been very high.

Did you verify SG?

Yes. I always dial-in the salinity and temperature. Never check alkalinity though I expected it to be around 8.5dKH. It would have had to be quite high to push the tank alkalinity up so much though

Dosing anything else? Kalkwasser, buffers?

I dose 2-part plus magnesium. I checked the level in the alkalinity container and it’s about what is expected. Doesn’t look like it’s the source/problem

Have similar issue in that my alk is high at 4.7 Meg/L or 13.2 dKH. I'm using Red Sea Foundation Pro kit which is a little difficult to tell actual number. My Cal is 500ppm and Mg is 1800ppm which are also high. My ph is 8.2. Nitrates and Phosphates are low to zero. Could the high Alk be cause I'm having difficulty in keeping just about anything alive. One Zoa and mushroom hanging in but lost number of soft frags. Ideas on other numbers I should check ?

I would get that alk down to somewhere in the 8 to 9 range. 13.2 is to high for a new tank.

Just measured 5 gallons of freshly-mixed saltwater
12.5dKH
This is after mixing up salt-mix.
What's going on?
Just to double check : you mixed it has 1.026 or 35ppt ?
If thats the case then Im miffed because Tropic Marine Reef Pro should mix to 8.5dKH

I mixed it to 1.026 salinity and 77-degrees.
Right, it should be 8.5dKH, but I just measured 12.5dKH!
This experiment was triggered by my tank dKH rising over 1dKH after a 10% water change.

I would contact the seller and explain the problem and see if you can get a new bucket.

Wow, I'm sorry.

I'm probably gonna be ticked off as well. I just ordered a 200g bucket of pro. I've been using the regular Tropic Marin.
