So after a bad trident test, I ran the test again and it gave me a result similar to what I would have expected. But then I decided to compare to some other tests.

Results.

Trident 1- 8.16
Trident 2- 8.23
Hanna- 9.3
Red Sea 7.5

I will continue to use the trident to assess trends and I want to keep alk fairly low so it’s not a huge deal but I’m curious about other peoples experience. Maybe when compared to ICP. I tried a search and the results must be burried.

Your results aren't surprising. You learned a valuable lesson, in which it doesn't matter the number as long as you keep that number consistent based on positive results of your tank.

Icp can't test for alkalinity, i know of one company (ATI) that offers the test but they don't use the icp machine to test it.
