Hello,

My Salifert kit is running low and I would like to try a different test kit when I am out of it.
Any recommendation? I am thinking Hanna dkh checker.

Thanks!

+1 Hanna Checker. Fast, accurate, reproducible, and refills aren't expensive.

I will say that I always keep a Salifert kit on hand as backup. Been using Salifert for almost 15 years now. And use Salifert for every other test besides alk and ulr phosphorus. Hanna is the one grab most often for those.

Im surprised the red sea alk test kit is not listed as number one by more people. I've used everything and red sea is by far the fastest and most reliable kit I've ever used.

My guess is because that color transition sometimes is hard to tell- bluish to pink (Salifert)

I have had hanna alk for over 2 years. It's ok, fast and gives a number. Once I got my ghl kh director, the number was about 1 dkh lower than my hanna. I started looking at other test kits and finally tried the Lamotte kit. I haven't used my hanna since on any of my tanks. Love the Lamotte alk test. It's just 5ml of tank water, drop in a tablet and then run titration. Very easy to read color change and if you go too far it changes color yet again.

I like it, I like it uh lot!

loved mine they they changed the formula and made it impossible to tell color change.

hannah for the win.

+1 on Hannah. I went from redsea to Hannah months ago. I can test Hannah alk and Hannah calc in the time it takes the nyos nitrate test to finalize. I also just got the Hannah Phosphate ULR and use redsea for mag. Takes me about 10mins to do them all. Test every other day except mag. Test that once a week.

I love the ease of use with my Hanna dKH checker but I will say that I use it for more of a "general idea" of my alk on a daily basis. Consistently my tests have never been spot on, usually hit or miss within 0.5. Today I tested it with my hanna and it came in at 7.6, with Salifert and Red Sea it came in at 8.0. Yesterday Hanna said 7.8, Red Sea was at 8.0.

I clean the cuvet with RoDI water and a microfiber cloth before each use and visually inspect for any finger sprints, smudges or anything else prior to each test. I try to be as consistent as I can with every test I do.

Not knocking it, I still use it, I just don't trust it for exact numbers.

I like the red sea but I will say, trying to see the color change from blue to green is a pain in the butt. I might try the Lamotte kit that @WWIII was referencing. Seems easy enough to use and accurate.
