alkalinity

just wondering … is it ok to have high alk? does it stress my fish?

my 45gal reef tank has alk 10-11
ph 8.1
lots of corals and fish in this one they all look good

my 13.5gal invertebrate/fish tank/no coral will have around 12 even when i change the water…
ph 8.2


fish act fine,
corals look fine

i just read that alk constantly lowers ..but mine never seems to and i just wonder if other people have high alks and maybe what causes that?

It all depends on the salt mix you're using (some have higher alkalinity than others). Most tend to stick to a 7-11 dKH range, with 8.25-8.5 dKH being the most common.
