I've always dosed up the cal and mag while mixing IO.

Some reason in the last year my cal has been staying over 500 for some reason.

I haven't seen a need with Ca consistently around 415 and Mg about 1335 after a 13% water change (both being slightly higher than I typically keep the tank). Obviously if you're after higher values, there would be a need.
