All acros gradually turn green

As stated above, a lot of acros turn green or brownish during the transition to a new tank. Some people never report this being an issue, however it is common for me! haha. My pc rainbow looked dead, now it is green. My Carolina Reaper was green/brown for a long time but steady putting out a huge new base. Now it is turning read in color although it does not have as much PE as some others I have seen.
If it is putting down a base or sprouting new nubs it is doing well enough to grow, I believe color and crazy PE for most corals will come with time.
just my observation in my tank....

I’d think that the 250 par is the problem. I’d shoot for 400 par before ruling out lighting.

I think if the coral has the right light intensity it will color up. Moderate intensity means green and to low intensity leads to browning.
Thanks I will gradually increase the light, my blue is kind of on the higher side already, can I just increase white to increase par?

Same lighting. I can frag a piece of it and the frag changes back to a greenish color for a week or two.

So you mean after the frag grow and become more mature the color will show up?

Heres a frag from the colony a day or 2 later...then they color back up in a few weeks

(I think you should frag this and send me the chunk in a week or two!) Very nice.

I agree, the corals take time to get acclimated. With stability and lots of par the colors will start to show, especially in the established happy colonies!

I'm trying to get motivated to try again. I'm almost there but have a lot of cleanup to do to the old system... :( :)

Main thing is they take some time to adjust even in the same system.much less a new system. As long as PE and growth are there the color should come eventually

Yes. The base for acros are usually green. Look at the photo above with he bright orange acro. The base is green =P. Even if you frag the orange tips, it will most likely turn green and then when it starts to grow and sprouts new branches, the new growth will color up. But again for a 13.5g, it's very hard to have SPS. Not impossible but much harder. Good luck. Don't buy more till your current frags do well....

This is also why when you see online vendors selling frags, the encrusted ones are green but fresh cuts have more color. So people alwayd buy the recent cuts cuz of the color and then they turn green anyways in thejr tank.

Gotta get back in the saddle!

My pc rainbow frag came brown and after a couple weeks it’s the brightest green in my tank! It’s actually brighter than my green slimer lol.. it’s getting ready to take off now we’ll see how it changes color as it’s 2 small branches about 3/4” long…. It’s sitting under a radion and looking good to me.. bright red polyps and glowing neon green..

Is this RR Pink Cadillac? Lovely color. I've noticed mine as green. I am thinking my intensity is not high enough. What lights are you running? At what intensity (watts if you can tell me).

Tsa bill murray. Running viparspectra black boxes at 78%blues and 1% white. It's about 350ish par.

If I recall correctly, WWC (who many say have some of the best frags) run their tanks with around 250 par….so i don’t know if higher is better. Maybe it is, but 250 is fine. Even Sanjay has stated that is plenty of light.
my tank is around 250, I dont have the greatest PE in my tank, but that could be due to a number of reasons. I also have some green corals but some are slowly getting better colors.

I agree. Par isn't an all out reading to go on. Some acros like a little lower or a little higher. Plus..lights vary on spectrums/par..250 par in one can be like 300 in another.
