All Euphyllia looking bad

ill be sure to monitor everything super close while dosing! If its just a simple case of nitrates ill be stoked!
I had similar looking algae on my sand but it did not cover my corals. I still have some in areas now but not to bad. My phosphate and nitrate had bottomed out. Tank was cloudy to. Glass dirty everyday. I removed my chemical media except for a bag of carbon in the sump and my skimmer. I dosed neonitro and neophos to get both those numbers up. Corals came alive, tank is crystal clear and now I clean the glass once a week. Not perfect yet but much better.

This is from about a month ago pre dino takeover. Tank is the same now except the frag rack is out and that torch is the same on from the OP that looks so bad. That was where it was when it spit out the zooxanthellae
I really like the scape ! My scape lacks a lot but soon it will be covered in corals so I won’t care lol but yeah definitely more nitrates get some thick corals and they will love you !

Would you believe me if I told you my tank was 10months old

Thanks! I was happy with it until I made the mistake of watching a BRS video and rethought everything! ahahah but appreciate the compliment. I dig the submarine lol adds great character! Tank looks good!

I watched that too but I only have 2 fish and there home is the submarine haha. Once you get the neo nitro definitely repost in this thread to see how it has done

LFS opens at 1 so it will be in the tank by 2 haha I'm very eager to upload with (hopefully) a great turn around!
I would like to do more fish so that video got my brain going. First tank woes haha

Just remember everything takes time in this hobby so even as you dose your numbers up the tank will still take some weeks to stabilize.

So did we get the nitrates ?
Just got them! LFS didn't carry any so had to order some. I tested nitrates again and still showing 0ppm. I dosed according to their label to try and bring it up to 1ppm. After doing more reading it seems like .25 is about the floor requirement but demands are increased if ALK is higher. ALK tested 10.1. I lowered the dosing on that more to get closer to 9. LFS didn't have any ideas and said they had never heard of someone that couldn't get nitrates in their tank. Idk. So! I ordered a separate nitrate test kit from NYOS just to be thorough. I attached a pic from today, day 1, so hopefully soon I'll have a good update!

So been adding the Nitrates and they've been testing between 1-2 for a week. Euphyllia has continued to degraded and I'm pretty sure I lost a torch. The only thing that seems to have changed is an increase in some green film algae on the back of the tank. None of my corals look fantastic. Pretty bummed and at a loss at this point.

How about after dosing the nitrates ? Dosijg nitrates can lower phosphates
I finally got around to testing again. NO3- 1-2 range, PO4- 0.06, ALK-9.8, salinity 1.026. The water seems to be within good parameters but the corals are continuing to look worse.

Give them time to adjust to these parameters you could also bump nitrate to 5 LPS like it dirty

I think the wording of "dirty water" around nitrates and phosphates is super misleading. When my tests kept coming back as 0, I thought of it as super clean water and not as no nutrients and negative for the corals.

Be VERY careful dosing this you don’t wanna put too much in and knock your nutrients out of whack. To much you can end up getting cyano and zeroing out phosphates which leads to dinos
I can’t get my phosphates up but my nitrates keep climbing. Any way to boost phosphates? I think I had a Dino problem so I skipped some water changes to boost phosphate and now I see cyano also, nitrates are 12 and phosphate is 0

Feed fish more, feed corals more too like reef roids should elevate phosphate levels.

"Dirty water" is a good thing for euphyllia. I suspect your tank is young and nutrients were too low starving the corals. They tend not to handle light as well when starved. Keep things stable and watch your nitrate and PO4. They can recover.

Thanks. Does it sound like dinos if I have been having 0 phosphates and consistently 5 nitrates? It’s reddish brown and I was sucking it up in clumps.

So I increased feeding and fed reef roids and reef energy, still 0 phosphates but now 12-15 nitrates and a small bloom. I blow it off the rocks and suck it out.

And it looks like dinos have stuck around.. still sucking those out too. Does any of this make sense? Salifert for phosphate test

Yes it does. And it’s a long battle with cyano Dino. You feed a lot you get cyano because now that you have increased the lower nutrient the system go out of whack. Bacteria consumes No3 and Po3 in a ratio what size tank is this ?
