I recently added a black Ocellaris clownfish and a coral beauty to my tank on Sunday. I conducted a water change and all seamed well. The CB did deem to be having trouble swimming and would be pushed around by the current.

I had a pre exciting clownfish in the tank that had been doing well for over a month.

Monday rolled around and the fish were all in good shape. The CB was swimming perfectly and did not seam to have any distress.

This morning however all 3 fish were dead. I immediately checked the tank water and everything seamed fine. The temp was high at 86 and the alkalinity was high at 13 but all other peramiters were optimal with no trace of ammonia.

The fish store I got from treats with copper so I did not bother using the QT.

All inverts and coral are doing well.

Is this marine velvet?

Welcome to R2R! Sorry for your losses. Were you able to get any pictures of the fish before disposing of them?

!!! Welcome to R2R !!! Sorry for your loss. I least for observation I would quarantine all fish. Some LFS do quarantine or treat fish with cooper but you have to be on the safe side.

My thermostat on the heater became stuck. I have since replaced the heater and dropped temp to 78. Here are some pics

86 really isn't all that bad, unless it got higher then that and you didn't notice it until the temp fell back down, I don't believe it to be what killed your fish.

Wow, so sad. I think 86 is way to high for saltwater fish, that what my Discus freshwater fish required to be happy.

86F would decrease available O2 in the water and increase metabolic demands on a sick fish. So, if your fish had a parasite, worm, infection, etc. the higher temp would exacerbate things.
My thoughts exactly.

I’m sorry for your loss, welcome to Reef2Reef— I wish it were under better circumstances.

How long has your tank been set up?

Welcome to R2R! Sorry about the troubles your going through. Have you checked out the inkbird 308 controller for your heater? Its a realitivly cheap piece of mind.

I am hopeing to upgrade to an Apex when I move to a bigger tank if this one ever recovers. I will be leaving it fish free for 2 months to rule out any parasites.

That's a great plan, been there, I feel your pain!
