all for reef? in a macro, gorg. & softie tank?

getting ahead of my self here BUT....

as I do my wire management and installing my 2X versa for AWC with I.O salt on my seahorse tank. will be heavy in and heavy out. thinking .5-1 gallon a day on a 80 gal. system I
was thinking about the possibility of dosing kalk. then I thought of all for reef.

interested in the keeping the trace elements up. not sure how much trace elements are in reg. I.O salt. so I was thinking of a small daily does of all for reef?

need NO but thought it could not hurt.
no ready to jump into the full no water change and reef moonshine method ....IDK just thinking out load here.

so let the dont does for anything you cant test for replays come.

or would I be better off dosing something like phyto?

It can hurt. If you’re adding trace elements every day but none are being used, they could build up to toxic levels quick. You only need to do water changes in the beginning and possibly longer depending on what you have. You won’t need to add calcium. One coralline starts growing it will use small amounts but it’s already in your salt.

If your only looking for trace elements do you even need them? I've never dosed any trace elements in 8 years with multiple tanks but I do pretty regular water changes. I'm not sure what phyto adds as I've never used it and A4R is to maintain alk and calcium is my understanding.

yeah i figured I would be fine w/ out dosing it was just curious if it would help.
I was on a FB macro algae tank group where a few ppl are on the full shine method with monthly ICP test.
think that is a bit over board for this tank.

just wanted to make sure the macros had all the nutrients they needed. guess i'll cross that bridge when I get them in the tank.

That's overboard for a 100% sps reef filled with milli's, tenius, and smooth skins.

but I guess they know what's in there tank. I agree overboard for a macro dom. tank but if your not doing WC might as well.

I think you would make it more difficult for yourself. I haven't tested anything on my softie/RFA tank in 1.5 years, it all grows like crazy, it grows coraline which my main tank doesn't... If you start dosing then you need to start testing, nd if you start testing you then you need to correct parameters.... its a rabit hole, and a softie tank is too easy, I would not complicate it (thats just me)

I’d add the opposite thought. If you use AFR in a reef tank with little alk demand, and use to to just maintain alk, it will add very little in the way of trace elements and you may need/want a different trace element additive in addition to it.
