I upped my dosage of All for Reef. I was doing about .05 ml twice a day, and increased it 1.20 ml twice a day. I started noticing oily gunk on the glass, above the water line. I thought it was algae, but it's not. The glass is actually quite clean and I only have to scrape it once a week. I also noticed oily residue on the water's surface. It looks like flakes of oil (I know, it doesn't make sense) on the surface. The "flakes" never join or attach to each other. They're separate. I usually remove them during water changes by skimming the surface of the water. I don't believe it's harmful, because all of the corals are happy.

I heard a similar thing mentioned on the latest episode of Reef Therapy. I'm wondering if any AFR users are experiencing the same thing, and what's causing it. It is just a byproduct of the reaction between the AFR solution and the bacteria?

I was using the DIY all-for-reef and noticed it had stability issues if I made too much and the excess was in a container for long periods of time. Not so much oily residue but it would crystallize in the container, and sent my alk off the scales

I'm using the ready made solution and it hasn't crystalized at all. I didn't notice the residue when I wasn't dosing it all that much.

Hmm my guess is it’s something else (organic) in the tank reacting to the chemistry changes. Got LPS? They can put off a lot of slimey gooey stuff
