All for Reef Questions

Thanks for calling me in @Lasse !

I think there are at least two different possibilities which have already been mentioned here.

1) The dosage of All-For-Reef is too high for this specific tank. It depends from different factors how much alkalinity and calcium corals will tolerate without adverse reactions, phosphate concentration amongst others.

2) The phosphate concentration is low and the trace element dosage is lowering the already low concentration. In my eyes the bigger effect in this regard comes from the trace elements, not from the organic carbon.

When I used Balling method with my trace element solutions it had a significant lowering effect on nitrate and phosphate concentrations. This is because trace elements where limiting coral growth before. Adding trace elements increased growth and N and P consumption.

When I changed from Balling method with trace elements to All-For-Reef I didn't notice a much different effect, it worked finally the same for our tanks.
did you see a difference in the ph?

Balling method and All-For-Reef both are quite neutral regarding pH, they neither elevate it much nor do they lower it.

I haven't seen a difference.
can the kh be replaced by sodium carbonate? I read in the past posts from you saying the results were worse with it?

KH can also be dosed with sodium carbonate. My results with sodium carbonate were not as good as with bicarbonate but this may be different under different condition like higher nutrient concentrations etc.

I saw less polyp expansion and as a result of this also less growth. Other users may have different results.

I have a 200-litre tank (5 months old) and dose 8 ml of AFR a day to maintain KH of 8.0. I have a modest amount of coral for the size of tank.

My previous tank was 60 litre and dosed 3 ml AFR a day.
