We are looking into a tank from American aquariums. They can make it ALL, which means no separate sump? It just takes away about 5 inches of tanks space on the end. Is there a reason more people don't do AIO?

A lot of people like to have maximum in tank space for viewing. AIO also limits you on equipment space for skimmer/heater/return pump/etc.

A lot of people like to choose they’re components. All in one can only do so much. I have a biocube all in one that I’ve modded so much that I should have got pieces and parts and a bigger tank

All in one tanks are nice if you have little space to work with. They incorporate the "sump" into the back of the aquarium to put your skimmer, filter socks, heater, and return pump instead of having another tank underneath the display tank. However there isn't much room to work with when you have an AIO so your options are more limited than with a sump. I prefer a sump because you're able to fit more equipment and have increased water volume.

Thank you! We also have a biocube, which is definitely limited on space, so I agree there. We're looking at having a 125 gallon made. The filter would be on the small end so it could be seen from 3 sides (We want it between the kitchen and family room). According to the measurements we have sent, it would take only 10 gallons away from a 125 gallon tank and just a few inches off the end. It's actually not even that expensive, which seems too good to be true. So it sounds like the biggest downside is not picking the actual filter equipment. It wouldn't have a skimmer, so we'd be able to pick that.

An AIO is great to get started. I would recommend it as a first tank but for my future tanks i wont get an AIO again. An AIO limits you in the means of equipment. I can pretty much only use the skimmer that came with the tank. I do have a little refugium set up but it is really narrow. Maintenence is harder in an AIO for sure aswell.

Still its incredible how fast you can get a tank setup and running when buying an AIO with technical equipment included.

Try red sea peninsula tanks

How much did you end up paying for the tank?
