hey guys, I currently have a frogspawn, and an elegance coral. the elegance coral look like its either turning brown or bleaching out I can agree its loosing color. my frogspawn is just constantly closed and not inflated but docent seem to be loosing color. all my parameters are in check and there has ben no swings phosphates:0 magnesium:1440 calcium:385 alkalinity:9.3 nitrates:12. I think there is only one reason why this is happening heavy metals. I have been using this distilled water that seemed to be good and it was held in a big blue 100 gallon tub from my grandmas house and I use that as my top off. I talked to my LFS about It and they said its possibly adding extra nutrients and metals into the tank I will try and post a picture of what the distilled water station look like and get pictures of my tank but lights are out in my tank currently. also im thinking about sending in an ICP test. also I am buying an RODI system.

An RODI system would be the way to go, yet distilled water if really distilled water shouldn't be an issue.
I'd still send a water sample for ICP to rule out contamination from other than your water source.

My 70 gallon is all distilled. Chloramines is such an issue in my area I gave up on my 8 stage rodi and buying water from the LFS and just use distilled. Is the container that is holding the water rated for food products not sure if this would be an issue either way. Zero phosphates could be an issue coral need some type of nutrients

8 stage RODI with triple DI and chloramine filter pre RODI. It is for sale if you are interested with a set of new filters :)

What test kit are you using to test PO4? You really should have some. There's no magic number but I suggest roughly .1 mg/l The minimum would be the threshold level identified below by Suthamptonm University of .03 mg/l.

FYI corals need phosphorus and are happy with Dissolved Organic (DOP), Particulate Organic and Inorganic (POP, PIP), and Disolved Inorganic aka PO4 (DIP). If you strip out all the PO4 but don't have other forms available you can creat a phosphate deficiency which is potentially deadly for corals. Here's links if you're interested in digging into it more:

Phosphate Deficiency:
Nutrient enrichment can increase the susceptibility of reef corals to bleaching:

Ultrastructural Biomarkers in Symbiotic Algae Reflect the Availability of Dissolved Inorganic Nutrients and Particulate Food to the Reef Coral Holobiont:

Phosphate deficiency promotes coral bleaching and is reflected by the ultrastructure of symbiotic dinoflagellates

Effects of phosphate on growth and skeletal density in the scleractinian coral Acropora muricata: A controlled experimental approach

High phosphate uptake requirements of the scleractinian coral Stylophora pistillata

Mag high, calcium low. Salinity could also be a culprit if its high
General los rule is moderate light and water flow and feed

temp range. 76-79
Salinity 1.025
Ph. 7.1-8.3
Alk 8-9
Mag. 1300
CA. 450
Ammonia .02
