Well unfortunately all five of my fish had marine velvet and they did not make it in quarantine. Would you guys recommend waiting a while before adding any new fish to the main tank? How long? Do I add anything or do anything while I wait?! #reefsqaud

The main tank needs to sit fallow for 76 days to cover the usual suspects until they starve out. The only one this does not work on is Uronema, which doesn't need a fish host to survive.

Okay! Right now I have an anemone, green start polys, and 2 snails. Do I continue the medication I was doing in the tank or just give that up now that the fish are gone. Also when would I put the carbon back in, turn on skimmer and UV? Thanks!

Nope - no meds. Copper will kill the inverts. Pretty much run your tank any way you want but don't put any fish in there for 6 weeks.

More info about velvet by @Humblefish available at https://humble.fish/velvet/

Were you treating medications in display tank and which meds?

You should add carbon, skimmer and UV back and discontinue any meds. Run aquarium fallow for 12 weeks.

ya if you had meds in the QT run carbon to get it out. also might be worth getting some cuprisorb.

Also - per @Humblefish velvet is 6 weeks fallow. Ick is 76 days... but, being safe and giving it an extra couple weeks is definitely not a bad thing.

As others have posted, run carbon to remove the meds and then you need to remove the copper. Seachem's Cuprisorb works very well. You can re-use it over and over. All you need to do is recharge (flush it) it with muratic acid that you can buy at hardware stores. And then I'd do regular water changes. Just don't add any fish until the 76 days has ended. And at that point, just to make sure, you could do the "Black Molly Test" to make sure all the parasites have starved out.
Sorry for your loses.

So sorry that happened to you! I went through it a year ago. So glad your not giving up. Follow #reefsquad. They definitely know their stuff!!

Well that is terrible news! Fallow is the way to go from here. Hopefully your next fish will be more rewarding for you!

What’s the black molly test

What’s the black molly test
Because of their black color, parasites like ich, velvet, etc. will show up quickly and easily to see on Black Mollies. Here's the whole plan of use:

What is fallow?!
Fallow means running your display tank without fish for a given period of time. Fish are the food of parasites. So by not putting fish into the tank, the parasites will starve. This works with Ich, Brook, Velvet but not with Uronema. During the "fallow" period it's ok to have corals, inverts (snails, shrimp, etc.) and to feed them, do water changes, maintenance, etc. You just can't put fish in there as they provide food to the parasites you are trying to starve out. Usual time period is 76 days of fallow.
Highly recommend stirring the sand a bit as there have been a few cases of Ich going dormant and hiding in the stagnant areas of sand.

You're in good hands already, but yes this is unfortunate but many of us have been there. Unfortunately, some of us more than once (guilty). Now I stringently quarantine as a result.

Sorry for the losses :(

Water change and cuprisorb (removes copper ) and then add carbon.
This can be very discouraging and you chose to move forward and win this and Hats Off to you !!! IT CAN BE DONE !

i wouldn't think they had Uronema since I didnt notice any red spots on my fish. I believe it was velvet since they looked "cloudy"
