Algae growth doesn't cause phosphate, phosphate causes algae growth. Guessing you didn't mean to imply that the algae is responsible for the phosphate?

Agreed! Been dosing nitrates (based on instructions should be increasing 1 per day). Also feeding twice a day.

I am a long time reefers and experienced mostly all of my zoas in my new system close most of their polyps.
I recently added T5 to my radions and even though i've made this mistake in the past I still made the same mistake again. Maybe bc i had a par meter and figured most of the zoas are on the barebottom so they are fine getting 100-150 PAR with T5 on. Well anyways I did 7 hours for 2 days and they did not like it. Flow is also a bit high but they didnt seem to mind the 2 weeks before adding T5. Moreover, one of my 3 radions crapped out on me and started going nuts at 3PM every day and that surely didnt help, Maybe it was ramping up too high and causing issues. Anyways, I have Gonis and acans also showing signs of some stress, The few SPS I have are happy as can be.

My conclusion:
Zoas are very resilient and hardy corals but they much prefer less light and moderate flow.
I know they can get acclimated to strong lighting but just like SPS, need to do it over the course of a month bc 4 rows of T5 have more light punch then any LED fixture on the market.

Zoas like higher nutrient tanks....also if you are not dosing...try Red Sea Trace Colors 4 part dosing system ....Iodine, Potassium, Iron, Bioactive Elements.

It's the Red Sea ABCD 4 pack. My Zoas, and all Coral for that matter have took off since dosing that.
