My tank currently 8 months old and start to play sps couple months ago. My sps went up and down through last month due to high nitrate and phosphate. But it start to grow and start healthy from last month. Until last week, my auto dosing doesn't dose vinegar which brought NO3 from 2 to 8-10. I notice it and some of me sps stn from the bottom and some on top. Most of them browning pretty quick. Phosphate before it happen was 0.02. After bring my nitrate down to 3 and all my sps stn from the bottom. Most of them don't extend polyp also. I check phospate again and it swing up to 0.09 after 3 days. Do you think my sps have chance to recover? Does phospate and nitrate swing cAuse my sps stn from the the bottom??????

Did you check your alkalinity? Tell u the truth i run my tank at 0.12 phosphate and 10 nitrate and my tank has never been better. Check salinity also

My alk stable at 8 in several weeks. The only thing right now is the phospate and nitrate swing too fast. Is it cause stn??

Nitrate n phosphate normally don't cause stn may be brown out.
Some brown out but most stn right now. I will check ph and temp

What are you using for lighting?
T5 and kessil at 35 intensity at peak, but I did changed to 55 last couple days and this happen until now. I turn back to normal intensity but it keep stn on top and bottom. I also make some change with the flow but the main flow haven't change. I add some extra flow which really weAk.

I found that when my lighting wasn't good enough the corals would brown out then die

My kessil only 8 months old,but after I change intensity in 2 days, my coral start to have that issue and even when I turn back to normal intensity

I know people who run their kessil's much higher than 35 percent. Are your sps placed high enough?

That why i have no ideas why it keep happen like this

I feel ya. That happened to me a long time ago and it was because of how poor my lighting was. All sps went brown then died

I guess phosphate swing may cause it but i'm looking for solution to stop stn. I don't want to lose all of my sps

You need to stop changing things. A rapid drop in Phosphate, or swinging Phosphate, can cause all kinds of issues. Combined with unstable Alk and it's worse.

The number one lesson is that SPS hate change, so everything you change can potentially cause issues. PO4, NO3, lighting, carbon dosing, etc. Find a routine and stick to it for a few months, then evaluate.

In addition, test Alk at the same time every day for a few days in a row to make sure it's stable.

How are you maintaining Alk? Two part or Calcium Reactor?
