Would a Canon EOS D7 suit my photography needs for everyday use/ aquarium photography? I have the option to buy one with an additional zoom lense for $900. Is this a good deal?

I love my 7D but acknowledge that it's pretty old technology if you are talking about the Mark 1. It's best suited for fast action like sports or birds but it works fine with my aquarium photography - IF you use the right glass.

I have a 100mm F2.8 Macro lens for coral and took the pics below yesterday. If you are talking the kit lens for the zoom that is included - save up for an upgrade. My favorite walk around lens is a 24-70 2.8L.

lol. Its a fantastic camera. Youll want a macro lens though. If I had the bank Id get a 60mm and 90 or 100mm macro.
FWIW many if not most of the mots important images captured on digital emulsion are on cameras now considered to be junk. With the 7d no matter what mark it is I could point you to several television shows also shot on it.
Its not the camera, its the photographer.

How much did this camera cost? And does it matter?

Uffffff... Excellent pics.... Casuality I am looking for a less expensive camera for my all around and can get decided between Nikon D5300, D5600 or D7200...

Great photos! My question really is, is it worth buying at a $900 price tag? Just didn't know if I could get something not used, but comparable and new for around the same price.

any, even though Im kinda Nikon , the 7d would probably make you happy, the 7200 too. They have greater control over color temp. That's actually the biggest difference in prices and features. Wider Color gamut and control, low end light levels, pixel counts in today's cameras are splitting hairs IMO.

thats up to you really, what besides the tank are you taking pictures of. see the above post.
Id also say look at the Photography forum, theres a lot more than DSLRs canons and nikons being used.

If my cap was $900 for coral photos I'd put most of the $ into a good macro lens and a tripod and use the rest for a reasonable body that you can capture RAW images from.

I have the 5D Mark II and it is so SO sexy. I used to buy new cameras all the time and I haven't even looked at another since I bought this one like 6 years ago. The lens is very important as said and a nice L lens is just drop dead gorgeous. I have the Canon "L" lenses 50mm f/1.4 and 24-70mm f/2.8L. It just purrs :-)
