Hey guys as the title states all my zoas closed up and the few that open from time to time colors have changed. I have some fire and ice that the red has turned fluorescent orange. I am having a problem keeping nitrate detectable just wondering if that could be my only issue or if i need to be looking elsewhere. I have some acans in the tank that seem to be doing fine. Plan on starting a nitrate dose when my products come in. Any other advice would be great thanks.

IMO they like a little nitrate and don’t do well (at least for me) in low nutrient systems. If you acans are doing well, it’s not the water quality so at least there’s a positive in there. Are they on the same level as your acans? That also may be an issue, mine have always like more light.

Make sure you dose slowly otherwise you'll shock them even more. Also, try lowering you light output by 30% and see if that makes a difference.

The acans are a little higher in the tank and will do on the light and see how that goes. Thanks for the advice.

My tank is LPS dominant. Recently decided to try a couple zoa frags. Mine were closed often as well and had a hard time finding a happy spot for them. I tried several different places until I found a spot they liked. To me it seemed it was more flow related.

Also im not really trying to maintain a low nutrient setup i got a new sump light and the cheato in there started growing like crazy and i guess it stripped the nitrate from the system got the light off now hoping to recover from that some.

Mine were all open and seemed to be doing well till about a week ago some were growing new polyps im really hoping its a nutrient issue but im new to reef tanks and saltwater in general so thought i would get some advice from the more experienced folks lol

Ok guys still no luck with the zoas looks like i may be losing a few polyps. I have been dosing the neonitrate for a few days now got it up to around 2ppm. The duncan i have is not as opened as usual kinda like the zoas. Does it take a little while for everything to adjust back or any ideas. Im going to run some activated carbon just incase something may have gotten in the water and do a water change today
