hey guys,
just wonderin, got a ORA red planet about 2 months or so ago. already encrusting half of the piece of LR i placed it on. everything is fine, growth awesome, polyp extension awesome, BUT IT"S gloria ALLRED! WHY? i loved the green base and red polyps but allred? any advice will be appreciated. all params are your normal base params for a reef tank but i do have him high about 12 inches from the 250w giesemann Halide light. hmmmmm. too much light?

since it's growing well and healthy i guess i gotta play the color making game............grrrrrrr

Ive been told if ora red planet is in higher light it looses its green, but if its healthy and growing i would just leave it..and maybe in the future cut a frag to test in dif lighting

It loses it green in high light. You can move it down if you'd like to regain some of the green color. However, here's my recommendation...leave it alone. Once it grows out, the areas that get shaded will become green. Mine has done this and I like it. I tried the moving it around game, but also resulted in much slower growth, as noted above.

Higher light = Red/Pink/White

Medium light = Metallic green/red

Low low light = Green Slimer.

I have my RP under my LEDs slight off to the side, half of it is metallic pink and the left half fades to a pure green. Probably the best looking red planet in the world because I'm just awesomeface like that.

Seriously tho.

+1 on that. Mine was all red as a frag, but as it's started to grow and shadow some of the base, I'm finally starting to get some green mixed in.

Agreed, I placed mine higher up in my tank and it definitely has more red. I fraged it and am going to place the frag lower in the tank to see what it does.

I placed that frag you gave me lower in my tank and recently moved it into the frag tank. With less light in there, it's showing a lot more of the green.

try using brightwells Koral Color. my main colony of red planet is under an 8 bulb ati power module and it is near the top of my tank and i have crazy pink and green coloring. i dose koral color once a week

I guess mine has kept it's color . It's about 17 inches from my fixture in a 18 inch tall cube .
Some branches have some green in them about halfway up . It's under a 20k bulb . A buddies get's more light but that colony is red with pink and white tips and no green . Ponape is below is for comparison color

Here it is .Pardon my crappy photo skills .

Mine when i was using 2 150w MH. it was located about 20" down and directly inbetween the two halides. I'm happy with the color so I never moved it and this is the result. i must say though it took over a year before that new growth on the left side began. Good luck with yours

my goodness that looks beautiful. such sharp color and pinks wow. yeah i have to agree higher light brings out the reds. my problem has ALWAYS been the opposite. literally about 30 seconds after any red planet has gone into my tank, it says "oh yay, mark's tank, hey red color, could u hide please??!?!" and it turns completely green. but i tried moving my diff frags around and finally a few inches from the top, but off to the side under full LEDs, some red is showing.

awesome pics guys and thanks for the advice. i wanna be awesome like that too so iʻll leave the sucker right where he is.
