Hey,
I have been after dinos for awhile and I thought I would increase my bacterial competition, so I added some Fritsyme 9 to the tank last night. Dosed correctly. I awoke to find my fish oxygen starved and at the bottom of the tank. I did a quick water change with what I had on hand, dosed in some h202 and had to get to work. My wife called me later to say that all but one had recovered.
There is nothing on the directions to warn about night use. My hypothesis is that the added bacteria used up a great deal of the available oxygen. I’ve never had this type of response when added in the daytime with lights on.
I lost my boxfish, he was a favorite. I will have to have another.
Another idea is that when the dinos enter the water column from the sand, etc, do they use up more nighttime oxygen?

What was your thinking for adding FritzZyme 9? That by reducing the nitrate in the water you would starve the dinos? Have you heard or read somewhere that this was a solution?

I'm no expert, especially with dinos, but this sounds very experimental. And also sounds like it was risky?

Lets try for some extra help: #reefsquad

Can you post your parameters? More specifically nitrate and phosphate? Many reefers have found dino comes from very low levels of nitrate and phosphate. If your nitrates and phosphates are low you might want to feed more to raise your levels.

I always run a higher nutrient tank, so my nitrates are 10-15 and phosphates 0.08.
Salinity 1.026
Temp 78
The idea behind the use of Fritz was to add a bacteria that I hoped to compete for physical space with the dinos. It was what I had on hand. Everything competes for nutrients and space, and since my nutrients run high, I hoped to reduce space.
I clean the sand with a python type device and do water changes and a bit of h202.
Have since ordered uv light.
I have noticed an uptick in reports of reefers with higher nutrient tanks and dinos.

I know I have been having a similar issue, I am using NoPox though, and you have to make sure your skimmer is going like crazy and I also have my returns/power head agitating the surface hard core to keep up o2 levels.
