Doing a large (15g change) to get my nitrates from 6-8ppm to under 4ppm (hopefully under 2ppm) on my biocube and then the plan is to get a mushroom (or ricordia) and zoanthid as my first corals. All 3 that I have in mind from what I have read, you have to almost try to kill them.

anyhows, I was at a shop locally that has a bunch of little corals on these discs in about 8-10 tanks, separate from the fish. I mean some of these things are LITTLE!

what do i need to do? If I get say 2 of them, I need to dip them, but then do I quarantine them? Reason being, my QT tanks don't have all that good of lights, because I use ambient lighting from the windows and hallway to look at the fish.

I am planning on dipping them at the very least, but do I just put them in the tank on these "discs" or do I have to remove the coral from these discs. If I have to remove, how do I do so?

Everybody does their own thing:

> Some do nothing....frag and plug right into the DT.

> Some remove the frags from the plugs (with a knife or chisel) and then dip the coral (and re-glue to a new plug) and then QT these corals.

> Others leave the frag on the disc/plug and do nothing.

> Still others leave the frag on the disc and dip, rinse and put directly in their tank.

> Etc., etc.

The issue is that no dip will kill eggs. I like to live dangerously and dip, rinse and put into the DT. Note that I do inspect to see if there are any eggs present. I've been fortune so far and haven't had any issue.

Given that I really don't have a good enough light, does that make QTing impossible? My QT area really is barebones.

What I'm saying is to do whatever makes you feel comfortable. This most likely is based on your past experiences.

Some like to be super cautious and do everything possible, while others do very little. I like to think I'm in the middle with a visual inspection followed by a 15 minute dip in Bayer, and rinse in tank water, before going into the tank.
