Alright so I joined the saltwater club about 3-4 months ago now. I started with a biocube 29 which I now realize my lfs guy used to trick me into this hobby haha.
So the wife wants a 120g. I've found the Aqueon 120g to be within budget. Been reading about it for a couple days seems like there is plenty of hate on the Aqueon dual megaflow system but at the same time plenty of people use them.
Right now my plan is to just use them as they were made and have the 2 1in drains be Durso drains and the 2 3/4 drains be the returns.
I considered heavily doing the dual herbie and running the return over the back but I don't think my wife would go for it.
It's in a room where some water noise would really bother anything. Although I'm thinking I would add 2 Maggie Mufflers to the Durso tops to help prevent blockages and deal with some noise.
I am planning on having a sump with a fuge in it. How much flow/what pump/would I need to keep the chaeto happy? I know I don't want to have too much flow via the return pump as that is what makes the Durso louder. Or do people use a second small pump in the sump to move the chaeto around?
I'm building my own stand. If I have a solid top on the stand do I need to take a hole saw and drill into it so the pipes can go down into the stand? Or what is the usual strategy?
This will be my first big tank, also first sump, also first time plumbing a system so if you have any tips on which pieces to use or where I should put valves, or what kind of valves please do tell. Links to things are great as well so I can put a picture to the suggestion.
