Title says it all. Ignore my horrible sand bed (unless you know how to fix it!).

is this a where's waldo? other than the sand bed, what do you want us to look at to identify?

Haha sorry, I thought the stark contrast in sand would give it away. Wondering what's living in the little cave that somehow became covered in sand. It's definitely not flow related, and at one point I blew all the sand away, but it came back.

One possibility would be pistol shrimp. Do you ever here snapping coming from the tank?

YES! This was my guess as well, but didn't want to influence guesses. I keep hearing one, but have yet to see it, even watching the cave.

Put a brine shrimp pellet in front of the den. That should entice it to come out. They make tunnels all over that connect. There is always a backdoor, but you may not be able to see it.

If you are hearing it, i would say its definetly a pistol. If you dont want it in your system you can make a bottle trap and put in front of the dens openeing.

Wasn't aware that they had full tunnel systems! I just thought they had burrows/holes. The sound definitely always seems to be coming from the left side of the tank, while this picture is the very center. Guess I'll try a goby and then a bottle if they don't like each other haha.

Yeah a bonded goby would be cool. You would see the shrimp A lot. My shrimp went rouge and killed the goby it was bonded with. A beautiful Yasha goby :(

Good luck!

some bond. must've forgot to take out the trash or something. did you fry up the shrimp afterwards and put it on your salad?

Haha, no the shrimp now resides alone in the pico tank with a bunch of soft corals, couple astrea snails, and a small army of amphipods. I rarely get a glimpse of him since the loss of the goby. I see his antennaes feeling around the den opening more often the see him coming out. He comes out mostly at night after the light is off and im trying to sleep.

I am glad I am not the only one that a pistol killed its goby. I tried to pair one up after its mate died and it killed it in two days. Guess the dating website I used was not compatible. :)
