Noticed both my clownfish have white stringy poo and, due to a lack of QT tank (don't have the space for that), I want to start treating by soaking food.

The problem is however, that neither are available in my country (Netherlands). Neither is API general cure.
Both Amazon Germany and USA don't ship them to my country either (due to regulations I guess).

According to this thread:
I can use agar or gelatin instead of focus, so that's 1 problem solved.

So, any alternatives for metroplex? It seems like anything with metronidazole is almost impossible to get without a prescription.

What do you have access to?
Fenbendazole is an option, cipro would likely work but both usually require a prescription

1. Intestinal worms
Symptoms:
White stringy feces, pinched stomach, loss of color, fish eats voraciously but still seems to be losing weight.
Treatment of choice: Praziquantel
Alternative treatments: Fenbendazole, Levamisole, Piperazine

2. Internal parasites/flagellates
Symptoms:
White stringy feces, pinched stomach, loss of color, fish eats voraciously but still seems to be losing weight. Flagellates are more virulent than worms, and thus can kill faster.
Treatment of choice: Metronidazole
Alternative treatments: Albendazole, Flubendazole and Mebendazole all show promise.

Both are indeed only available with prescription.

These 3 aren't however. I'll see which one's the easiest to get tomorrow morning.
Really stupid by the way, that's the thread I got the metroplex suggestion from, but didn't think to check for the alternative treatments.

Are these 'reef safe' in the same way metronidazole is? If I soak it in fish food with agar or gelatin it won't decimate my invertebrates?

Thanks guys! :)

Just a thought.

Just a thought.

Interesting read. These fish aren't new though and in addition to the stringy poo, they seem to have sore like bumps on their body.

You might want to start with a Freshwater dip to check for flukes. Might be the cause of those "bumps."

Just got done with the FW dip. Don't think anything fell off.
The female does seem more active now though, swimming around the elegance instead of just lying in it.

One problem though, she doesn't eat. Didn't eat pellets yesterday nor mysis today. That was just a few minutes after the dip though, so I'm hoping she was still a bit stressed out.

If she won't start eating the soaked food in the next few days I'll try to find a local reefer with a QT that wants to treat her.

Just to be sure, are flubenol and flubendazole the same thing? Found 1 source saying it is, just want to double check.

Yes. Flubenol is to Flubendazole as Tylenol is to acetaminophen. :)

I did find the SDS though and it contains some other stuff. Do they make a version for fish?

All the search results I can find are aquarium related (sold as flubenol 5%), so I assume those are meant for aquarium use. No idea what else is in there though.

It does state that it's used for freshwater tanks only to get rid of planaria and snails.
