Alternative Overflow for Emergency Drain

My tank has two separate 1" drains. I finally replumbed it so there's one drain that has a full suction and the other is just barely skimming water and serves as a backup. Its great since its super quiet now. The main drain has a low profile strainer and the backup drain has a slip x street 90 plugged directly into the bulkhead. I cut the street side down a lot so the water level wouldn't be that much higher than the main drain. The problem is I don't really like the look of it. Any recommendations on a better looking design?

Here's a side view below water level and above. You can see how the cut I made is a little ragged.

Guys- & Gals, please, when posting pictures turn off the blues.
It is very hard to distinguish features under blue lighting.
A simple daylight scene is what we need.
