Alternative to Bioballs

I'm looking at getting into reef aquariums. Buying a setup, and was hoping some of you had some ideas of alternative media to bio balls.

I also agree. Bioballs is something you can look into later if you want. Definitely not needed.

No one should be using bio-balls in a SW tank. While they do provide a place for bacteria to colonize they also provide a place for ditreus to collect and break down into nitrates, which are bad for the tank. Live rock is all you need. You do not need any type of machanical filtration other then a protein skimmer.
