Alternative to nylon tubing

I am looking to buy some tubing to help with scaping. Will polyethylene tubing be safe?

Yes, that's what it's for

It has been in use in a variety of industries to include food/beverage. My thought is "yes." Would I use it in my reef system...yes. I would be comfortable using it.

Whenever I plan on using any plastics, I always clean it thoroughly before being used with my tanks. Just my own OCD kicking in.

This is to add to that already. I'm doing an nsa scape and want to ensure that it doesn't break off, but that's just because I worry

I have no first hand experience but it seems to be wildly used and I haven’t seen anybody complaining that it breaks over time. I have seen quite big structures built from it.
In my next tank I plan to use the technique myself.
