hi all !

I was looking for PVC or something else then aluminum for my aquarium top so my Wrasse won't jump out ! but I can't seem to find this around here.... and when I look on different top DIY - most are done with aluminum.... is that really safe ?????

that would make my life so much more simpler !!!

thanks !

Isabelle

I've never seen anything but aluminum in the pre-made screen frames. You could make your own out of wood or acrylic and just staple or glue the mesh you're using onto your own framing material. Or, how big are your wrasse .... would eggcrate work instead?

I don't know for sure, but I would think that the aluminum frame would be fine since its not going inside the tank .... just keep any eye on it for any corrosion and replace when necessary before you get anything dripping back into the tank from splashes. There is a lot of aluminum on light stands and fixtures since it is more corrosion resistant and haven't heard of any problems from it.

Mine is aluminum and it sits on some of those rubber bumpers you can get for cabinet doors. It never gets wet so there is nothing to get worried about.

But like KSzegi stated, you could make a frame out of acrylic pretty easily. Previously I used eggcrate and while it worked fine to keep the fish in the tank, it does reduce the amount of light going into the tank.

aluminum should be fine so long as it isnt submerged constantly. the Framework for my LED's is all aluminum. that said,I thing there are soem poly screen frames, but the anodized coated ones at any home improvement store should work just fine

thanks all ! well for now I decided to go with the egg crate since I wasn't sure about the frame ! Although I do want a goby and or blenny... so these might go through - but we are good for now !

thanks ! the egg crate is great though ! easy to set up! just need to cut a piece for an easy access door for feeding instead of putting the whole top aside !

and thanks for the bump ! ;o)

If you decide to do something different down the road here's a pic of what I did described above

You will be fine with aluminum. You don't want to use egg crate as you lose light
