So ive had a big can of seachem po4 remover sitting around. The aluminum oxide stuff. And im wondering if it even works. It seems it doesnt reduce po4 at all, or is less effective than gfo. While i run my ats all the time and po4 used to range from 0-0.13ppm now it seems to stay at .08-.13ppm. Id like to see zeros.

Anyone else notice aluminum oxide po4 remover isnt as good as iron oxide hydroxide stuff?

I do not use GFO, but I have used the aluminum oxide phosphate remover in the past with some success. I prefer carbon dosing for phosphate export, but lanthanum chloride also works. I've heard that some people have observed coral sensitivity to the aluminum, but I can't honestly say I've every seen it firsthand.

So I tested po4 with the hanna its .10ppm. The medias been in there a few days now. Previously it was anout the same.

It could be leaching from somewhere in the tank. As PO4 levels go down it increases dissolution of PO4 bound to rocks/sand.

I'd just keep monitoring it.

Are you getting good flow through it?

How much did you use for how much tank water?
