Aluminum stand????

Good questions. I personally don't know, but maybe someone in the #reefsquad knows or knows of someone that does.

Well I've never used it personally, but would likely do so if I ever do another stand for myself. Benefits as I see it are strength without all the bracing, thus providing more real estate under the tank. The skinning options are basically limited by your imagination.

I think I remember several people referencing the site below as a good buying option, but I'm sure there are others.

I really can't answer your question, but would think the recent change in tariffs on imported steal and aluminum, if anything, the price has gone up.

I know a number of folks have build aluminum stands using 80/20. If you search this site you'll find a guy who sold a stand (for $300), but claimed it cost $1200 to build...it ain't cheap!

Advantages....clean looking. Disadvantages....price. You could build wood at a fraction of the price.

Aluminum pits with saltwater contact, and must be powder-coated for protection.
Wood is the cheaper option, less future issues

Hey all
Have these aluminum stand come down in prices? Question? What are the pro's and con's of owning this type of stand? Who has the lowest prices? Appreciate your feedback.

You mean aluminum on average or a particular stand?

I have build with the https://www.8020.net/
a few for friends from 120 up to 300 gallon tanks and they hold like a welded steel stand or better myself engineered hardwood 1" plywood stand.
If I ever build another tank I will use the 80-20 in a heartbeat but my time is running out.

Extruded aluminum is cheap for what it is. The nice thing you can have the pieces pre cut to the size you want and then just have to assemble it. Just takes an Allen wrench and a rubber mallet to build one. Make stuff all the time with it here at work.

I think that this is the largest drawback.A rusty stand is not a pretty sight.I would wipe it down like crazy if I invested in one.
Wood has a better appearance long term. It needs wiped down regularly to keep salts from soaking into it.

Wood can be stained any color to protect it from salt. If you add a few layers of polyurethane , it will seal the wood from water. If you build a cabinet or buy one, there’s a wood bottom that should be sealed to protect from leaks or spillage
