I purchased 3 sweet frags - 2 alve and 1 Goni. Need some advice. Am I best to take them off the plugs and just leave on the sand? Is bottom placement right for both? Under an overhang? I have a 90 gal tank with mostly zoanthids, shrooms, and softies.
I am running 2 Ocean Revive t247s at 45 blue/15 white - increasing slowly 1% each day alternating blue and white.

Thanks for any advice keeping these beauties going and healthy.
Mike.

Sand bed is good. Placement under an over hang is not required they are photosynthetic. Mod flow and lighting. A slurry type of food or Goniopower is recommended. Typically wild Goniopora do not fair as well in the average aquarium, the Red aquacultured do well in a stable tank. Alevopora tend to hardier.
The link below is a good one.

Congrats, they are awesome corals. Just remember they do require stable ca/alk and mag level like all other stony corals.

Thank you so much. I do 5% water change weekly and maintain calcium, alk, and magnesium largely through water changes + once a week I add reef fusion 1&2.
I have a bubble coral that has done well with this routine - my trial with stony corals.

If i could give some advice. Placing the flowerpots on sand bed is advisable however I would place the frag plug on something like a plug disk holder or flat rock. Corals on sand bed will get irritated by the sand as it creeps up onto the frag plug. Goni's and Avlepora or very sensitive to flesh irritation.

Thank you. I will leave them on the frag plug and place on a flat rock.
Thanks

Leaving them on the plug will not hurt them. There are two types of frags. Encrusting, easier to care for. Ball type is the other. This type is much harder to keep. Either will grow on its own and over the frag plug. The encrusting type will grow over the plug and onto the rock you place under the plug. The ball types will grow as the description says. The encrusting types are easier to frag, care for and more common in the trade. Both as time goes on and they grow they will totally encompass the frag plug into their skeleton.

Generally some will remove the coral, from frag plug. To attach it to a live rock but most corals that are left on sand bed. There is no reason to remove it from frag plug.

Thank you. That is great info.
