So I picked up a frag of alveopora a couple of days ago and still hasn't opened up. I've read that many people don't have much luck with these. It was fully open when I purchased it but looks like this now and hasn't opened up at all. Any advice?

Not going to sugar coat it,...that does not look good,...sorry.:(

Gently blow the algae off with a turkey baster and place it in very low flow/lighting and hope for the best.

It was perfectly fine when I picked it up 2 days ago. I thinking dipping it really damanged it. The other two corals I dipped at the same time are doing fine.

That doesn't look like and happened to fast to be typical water conditions, brown jelly, or starvation problems associated with "pora's".

I am assuming it looked fine when purchased 2 days ago? For it to go down hill that quickly it very well could have been the dip. What did you dip it in?

Yes I bought it Wednesday night and it was fully opened with nice color. I dipped it coral rx for about 15 minutes. Rinsed it off with ro/di and placed it in the tank. I don't remember if it looked like that when I took it out of the bag but remember noticing while it was being dipped. I dipped a blue sympodium and some zoas along with the alveopora and those are doing fine.

I wouldn't worry much. I don't know the difference between gonipora and alvepora, but it looks quite similar. My goni closes up every night and looks fine durin the day:

On a side note, for those of you who use iPhones, do you ever notice how much autocorrect doesn't understand reef terms and species? It so annoying! Anyway, sorry to steal your thunder- how longs it been closed?

Ahh, nevermind--
Gonis have 12 tentacles on each... stalk(?), whereas alvies have 24.

Could be either. I'd say your odds are much better than I thought-- now 65-35 it lives because I had gathered that it's been closed longer than that. Mines closed for several days on end before--kinda like gsp.

Also I'm pretty sure Alvie's are more hardy than gonios. Just make sure your parameters are up to par.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
