Am I a murderer?? :(

So I have a watchman goby and pistol shrimp in my 75 gallon and added sand to the tank trying to avoid where they hang out. Turns out I got sand in their area. I lifted the rock where they hang out but didn't see either one of them and moved the sand from that area. I didn't see either of them but I'm pretty sure I see a whole. Can the goby dig out of sand? Or did I just kill my first fish. ...

Should be fine. I just saw a peppermint shrimp of mine come out of a rock that I had not seen in at least 5 months. I actually screamed with joy in amazement. And I just redid my entire rock scape last month.

Keep an eye out when feeding, most likely they will show up.

Watchman gobies can dig. But if u dump a ton of sand on em, they stand no chance. I assume that’s not the case. I’d think it should be fine. Pistol shrimp are excellent little diggers too.

You should be fine. I've done the same in past tanks I've kept. They'll most likely hide for a bit, but they'll come out when they're ready. I have a yellow watchman goby paired with a peppermint pistol shrimp for over a year now in my current tank. They are fascinating to watch but do not come out every day. They are only very active maybe 4 days a week. The rest of the time, they kinda peek out of their cave every once in a while.

My pistol shrimp and goby pair disappeared for a while. You know what I did to find them? I smoothed all the sand in the tank and, the next day, saw evidence of the shrimp’s landscaping. Also narrowed down where they could be. I stuck my trusty turkey baster of food near the opening and sure enough, 2 hungry little buggers appeared. Good luck

For what it’s worth, I totally understand your worry. My husband tells me I’m crazy because I worry if I can’t see all my hermit crabs and make him help me count them. The vast majority of the time, 1 is missing but always turns up hahaha

They are probably not dead, but for sure you scared the devil out of them.
I wouldn't expect them to come out of hiding until they think you have finished dumping sand on them and left the area.

Yea I was thinking the same thing if bombs were being dropped around me ide hide too! Lol

It’s a double edged sword really. I keep his interest piqued so he helps w eater changes and accepts the budget lol
